Accounting Associate I

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs the transactions and processing in accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, payroll, property and project accounting, data processing and all other general accounting functions. Exercises independent judgment in the processing and resolution of non-routine accounting matters. Maintains a working knowledge of all the day to day accounting functions and integrated accounting system in order to perform them independently or to provide assistance or substitution services. Applies a working knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and internal controls.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs data entry and processes daily transactions through the accounting system. Complies various documents, verifying their accuracy and processes according to established procedures and processes.
  • Understands the integrated accounting system including ability to follow transactions through the entire system. Employs formal and informal goals, standards, policies and procedures both within the department and throughout the company.
  • Performs weekly and monthly reconciliations both within the accounting system and to other systems, such as bank reconciliation, aging reports, check runs, open purchase orders, trial balance, inventory, and payroll.
  • Maintains and updates procedures manual and checklists for all general accounting processes.
  • Provides recommendations to Accounting Supervisor for process improvements to help meet customers’ needs, provide cost savings and work efficiencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Associate’s Degree and additional experience may be considered

Experience:

  • 3 years’ experience in general accounting practices and procedures

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels and work as part of a team
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with varying scopes and timelines
  • Ability to exercise flexibility to work effectively in a changing environment
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills to identify, anticipate and resolve problems at hand
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Strong customer orientation
  • Broad knowledge of integrated accounting applications and desktop applications, primarily databases and spreadsheets
