Accountant – Research Institute Accounting

Summary:
The Accountant is responsible for proactive monitoring, importing and adjusting of payroll related to internal and externally funded awards. The Accountant serves as the primary point of contact for payroll related inquiries.

Responsibilities:
1 . Ensures payroll is imported accurately into accounting system and resolves any import errors. Performs daily/weekly system processes related to payroll.

2 . Enters Labor Distribution Templates into accounting system. Reviews for completeness and ensures accuracy across systems.

3 . Proactively monitors and resolves payroll discrepancies and prepares payroll transfers as needed. Ensures payroll transfers are done timely and accurately in accordance with internal and external guidelines/regulations.

4 . Manages the updates of employee census data in accounting system.

5 . Publishes time and effort.

6 . Creates and monitors payroll audit reports. Resolves outstanding items timely.

7 . Reconciles payroll liability accounts to supporting documents and works with Accounts Payable department to ensure payment of amounts due.

8 . Participates in the accurate and timely closeout of awards.

9 . Assists with personnel forecasting and other personnel reporting.

1 0. Assures compliance with all federal, state and internal regulatory restrictions on payroll.

1 1. Works closely with members of Research Accounting department, Sponsored Projects department and internal/external auditors on issues related to responsibilities.

1 2. Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1 . Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required.

2 . One to three years’ experience in accounting required, with grant accounting experience preferred.

3 . Windows-based integrated accounting software experience and strong aptitude for other software programs including Microsoft Office suite required.

4 . Analytical and organizational skills required to identify and resolve operational issues (procedural or systems).

5 . Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

6 . Strong interpersonal, customer service, written and oral communication skills.

7 . Contribute to a positive work environment.

8 . Demonstrate collaborative and respectful behavior.

9 . Ability to maintain confidential information.

M INIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Note frequency as Constantly (67-100%), Frequently (34-66%) and Occasionally (0-33%) for each requirement. Also note any lifting requirements with pound limit.
