Accountant II

Under the supervision of the General Ledger Accounting Manager, it is the primary responsibility of the Accountant II to assist in ensuring the accuracy of the General Ledger. Tasks necessary to fulfill this requirement include transaction accounting, processing journal entries and reconciling various general ledger accounts. Familiarity with and awareness of generally accepted accounting principles are required to ensure compliance.

Detailed Description

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Record, classify and summarize financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Initiate and process journal entries both transactional and month end closing.
  • Prepare various reconciliations, as assigned.
  • Respond to inquiries. Check accounting transactions to locate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Assure that regular month end checklists are completed according to timeline.
  • Prepare various schedules required for year-end financial audit and assist with audit completion.
  • Cross training and backup for a variety of transactional entry responsibilities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management and time keeping areas.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure accurate recording of company activity
  • Other projects as assigned.
  • Serve as a representative of the company, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions.
  • Comply with Company and client policies and procedures.
  • Support the AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the field of Accounting with general ledger experience
  • Proficient with computer usage especially in MS Excel and experience using mid-tier computerized accounting programs.
  • Ability to operate calculator, ten-key and computer keyboard by touch.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must be reliable.
  • Must have exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Must possess analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal format.

Additional Details

Additional Details

A candidate must be able to meet the following non-exclusive requirements:

1. Meet the AES Driver Licenses and Records Policy .

2. Take and pass a pre-employment drug test which may include both UA and hair testing.

3. Meet the physical requirements of this position including working in a remote location under arctic conditions.

The availability of this position is contingent upon the Company’s continued operational needs once training is completed.
