The Division of Financial Services is seeking applicants for an Accountant I position in the Fund Balancing Section. This position reconciles the transactional activity processed for the university local agencies, organizational safekeeping, imprest and local state deposits.

Job Description:
Reconcile four university bank accounts with significant transactional activity using the University’s Financial Information System (FIS), input from departmental central reconciliation systems, and on-line banking tools. Research discrepancies and contact responsible parties to initiate correcting entries in FIS and the bank. Research listing of outstanding checks for all four banks to ensure that a timely redemption occurs or action taken to void and potentially reissue outstanding checks.

Compile data and prepare reports for each bank account to reflect the reconciliation of items posted to FIS to items processed to the bank. This includes monitoring the activity as well as the fees that are charged and paid to university vendors.

Coordinate the action taken to account for and transfer the state and local agency unclaimed checks from a central university account to the State of Kansas as unclaimed property.

Assist supervisor in preparation of ad hoc financial reports as needed. Research departmental and bank account errors and consult in the contract analysis of university credit card and banking contracts.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience in professional accounting/auditing work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with accounting experience

Ability to analyze financial data and recommend journalized correcting entries

Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), practices and standards
