NATURE OF WORK: This is a professional accounting position responsible for assisting senior staff in the development, modification, and implementation of accounting systems, standards, procedures, financial controls, and the production and interpretation of financial statements and reports for the Nisqually Indian Tribe.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare adjustments of journal entries.
  • Set up charts of accounts.
  • Monitor grant spending.
  • Enter invoices, receipts, and MEPA use to maintain accurate accounts receivable and MEPA records.
  • Prepare and file quarterly and annual grant reports.
  • Review and approve requisitions using grant funds.
  • Perform monthly review of Rez Mart gas expenditures.
  • Assist with monthly and year-end closing of books.
  • Produce, review, and distribute financial information and reports to designated Tribal personnel, granting and contracting agencies.
  • Assist with providing training to Nisqually Indian Tribe staff regarding financial policies and procedures.
  • Recommend necessary department controls and/or procedure changes to improve current systems.
  • Compose correspondence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, bookkeeping theories and practices, and office procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations for grant and contract compliance.
  • Ability to research, interpret, analyze, and explain detailed and complex financial data.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions and technical terminology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work successfully as part of a team and to establish and maintain effective relationships with a variety of government employees and officials, and the general public.
  • Ability and willingness to assume responsibility for accuracy and timeliness of work projects and to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain and practice strict confidentiality regarding financial information, records, and other matters at all times.
  • Skill in performing detailed and accurate accounting calculations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain organized work methods.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or a closely related field from an accredited institution OR an equivalent combination of appropriate experience and/or post secondary education.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal history background check.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and must be insurable.
