The City of Salem is a full service municipality and is the capital of the State of Oregon. The organization provides a full range of municipal services, including but not limited to: water/wastewater/stormwater utilities, police, fire, municipal court, airport, public works, economic development, community planning and development, parks and recreation, and library. The Urban Renewal Agency of the City of Salem is a separate municipal corporation responsible for governing Salem’s urban renewal areas. The Finance Division, under the City Manager’s Department, is responsible for providing accurate and timely financial services (i.e. accounts payable/receivable, payroll, project accounting, treasury, and general ledger reporting) to the organization and customers with professionalism and integrity.

The Finance Division currently has an excellent opportunity for a skilled Accountant to join our team.

The Accountant performs professional, technical, analytical and administrative functions in the Financial Reporting Section responsible for accounting services related to project/cost accounting; grant management and single audit; financial reporting; reconciling to the general ledger; maintain federal fixed asset inventory control records. The work is completed in a high paced environment with competing priorities and multiple interruptions. If you are detail oriented, willing to learn, have high analytical proficiency, a friendly personality, a passion for service, and have excellent oral and written communication skills, then we may have a position for you.

What are the Minimum Qualifications?

Must pass the pre-employment background check

May be required to have an Oregon Drivers license and be able to meet the City of Salem’s driving standards

The position requires an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business administration or related fields: AND

A minimum of three years’ of experience in accounting, business administration, finance, OR any combination of experience and training in a related field that demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and abilities as listed, and ability to perform the examples of work.
