Accountant 1 or Accountant 2

Under general supervision and in accordance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), performs professional accounting duties, such as recording financial transactions, analyzing and reconciling accounting records and preparing standard accounting reports. Works closely with the School Nutrition Accounting Manager in analyzing accounting data and transactions to ensure accuracy. Assists with monitoring School Nutrition’s budget on a monthly basis, assists with monitoring School Nutrition’s appropriation and cash balances, assists with troubleshooting in the areas, but not limited to, processing the School Nutrition reimbursement claims, assists with reconciling the School Nutrition Online(SNO) System transactions to PeopleSoft, ensures that School Nutrition’s expenditures are reported on the Financial Statements in accordance with Budgetary Basis, GAAP Basis and Federal Reporting Standards, assists with maintaining and ensuring the proper functioning of the School Nutrition Online Reporting System, staying abreast of USDA policies and procedures and implementing changes to Georgia DOE and School Nutrition; and, serving as a liaison between the Accounting Office and School Nutrition Division.

Minimum Qualifications:
Accountant 1:

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university OR completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a business curriculum which included the completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence.

Accountant 2:

A Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university OR completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a business curriculum which included the completion of introductory and intermediate accounting sequence- AND- one (1) year of professional accounting experience – OR- 1 year as an Accountant 1 at a State Government Agency.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualification, possess one or more of the following:

• Master’s degree in accounting

• One or more years of experience in governmental accounting

• Completion of the State Financial Management Certificate Program

• Experience utilizing PeopleSoft Accounting modules

• Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access)

• Strong organizational skills

• Experience filing monthly claims and an understanding of the School Approval Module(SAM) and School Nutrition Online(SNO) Application

Salary/Benefits:
Accountant 1: Pay Grade H – Annual salary range $27,249 (minimum) to $47,685 (maximum).**

Accountant 2: Pay Grade I – Annual salary range $29,974 (minimum) to $52,454 (maximum).**

** The hiring salary is commensurate with current employment, relevant education/training and work experience; State Personnel Board Rule 47-1-.12 and available funding .
