The Learning Center is an interdisciplinary academic support center that includes Disability Services. The Center creates equitable access to education; runs the Peer Mentor Program; and offers assistance with writing, software, time management, study skills and professional development.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Academic Support Coordinator (ASC) supports the mission of the Learning Center by coordinating and providing academic support functions for students; including writing, tutoring, academic workshops, time management meetings, and group study sessions.

The ASC provides support for students with a variety of disabilities. This includes responsibilities related to potential review of documentation, assisting in the determination of reasonable accommodations based on identified disabilities, hiring notetakers, and facilitating testing accommodations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Academic Support Coordinator is responsible for or will assist the Director with the following:

Provide coaching in the form of one-on one- meetings with students for time management, basic and advance writing, and professional development.

Coordinate access and accommodation requests, including notetaker requests, and digital text/alternative format material requests and testing accommodations requests.

Maintain session tracking and notes, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of information

Create and update academic support resources and electronic/web resources

Interact with students, college employees, alumni and off-campus community members and organizations

Increase knowledge in writing and Disability Services related subject areas through professional development such as reading publications and attending webinars and conferences

Assist with Learning Center Research to ensure best practices and quality programming.

Report, track and assess the effectiveness of the academic support programs

Administer training and scheduling for student workers/tutors.

Assist with supervising of student workers/tutors

Additional duties as assigned/needed

QUALIFICATIONS:Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)

Experience working with students in higher education

Experience with tutoring college students and editing college-level writing

Experience providing accommodation services/support to students with disabilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Passion for arts education

Passion for creating positive, accessible learning environments for all students

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Excellent relationship-building skills

Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of students

Knowledge of academic support functions

Understanding of confidentiality

Commitment to supporting the needs of students from underrepresented populations

Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of and exposure to the arts, writing, or education-related field

Experience in writing centers, academic skills centers, or learning centers

Experience working with ELL/ESL/EFL/NNES students
