The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) is looking for an Information Technology (IT) professional programmer, to develop and operationally support the department’s IT systems. The users of the department’s systems vary, (i.e. the public, internal departmental staff). The technologies we use are .NET/SQL, and Java/Oracle. Our IT development teams use Rapid Application Development (RAD) for maintenance and smaller initiatives, along with Agile for larger more complex projects.

YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to proactively identify problems and generate solutions
  • Ability to communicate technical information
  • 1+ years of experience with software development practices
  • 1+ years of experience with relational databases
  • Understanding of N-Tier Architecture
  • Experience with .Net 3.5 or later
  • Experience as a team member on a team of 5+ developers
  • Knowledgeable in Application Development Methodologies, including Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, and Iterative

THE HIRED CANDIDATE WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING

  • Responsible for the design, coding, testing, and deployment of application development enhancements, maintenance, modifications, and/or fixes.
  • Works to ensure coding changes conform to Department hardware, software, development, and architecture standards, including:
    • Writing efficient and effective code that meets requirements and design constraints.
    • Following the standards and guidelines of the development team.
    • Collaborating with the team and development lead to complete projects/tasks and share knowledge.
  • Assists in maintaining, troubleshooting, and patching systems.
  • Provides data to business users in a clear, concise, and timely manner.
  • Documents design specifications, installation instructions, and other system-related information.
  • Creates, updates, and reviews documentation as required based on the development methodology utilized.
  • Remains up-to-date on current technologies and best practices in software development.
  • Performs security analyses and risk assessments as needed.
  • Attends training as needed.
  • Performs other duties as required.

  • Experience with Object-Relational Mapping (ORM) software, such as LLBLGen
  • Web services (Web Services Description Language (WSDL), Simple Object Access protocol (SOAP), or Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)
  • Scrum Experience
  • Windows Communication Foundation (WCF)
  • Experience with Service-Oriented Architecture (web services)
  • Windows Workflow Foundation (WWF)
  • IBM FileNet
  • HP Exstream
