JOB SUMMARY:

The Arizona Department of Administration, General Accounting Office, is seeking an experienced Statewide Accountant 3 to bring their background and experience with principles, theories, and concepts of reporting to be leveraged in a statewide, governmental environment to bring forth enhancements to reporting systems, procedures, and methods that enable the accurate and timely issuance of the State’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). Employees have an excellent opportunity to develop knowledge in reporting requirements impacting the State as a whole and be part of a collaborative team that derives solutions to complex technical reporting issues facing the State.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Based on input by other professional and/or technical staff, recommends enhancements for improvements to accounting and reporting systems, procedures, policies and methods for inclusion in the statewide financial systems
  • Performs a lead role in the completion of complex assignments
  • Assures integrity of statewide financial data and consistency in application of statutes and other related laws and/or regulations
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

You will bring the following to the position:

  • Substantial experience in research, a strong analytical approach, innovative thinking, high degree of proficiency in spreadsheet development, and proven record for attention to quality assurance
  • Demonstrated expertise in the interpretation and application of the requirements promulgated by Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and other related publications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of concepts and theories, procedures, and processes used in assigned CAFR segments
  • Skills in leadership and the ability to work effectively with team members to achieve share goals
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university. A Bachelor’s Degree in a related subject will be considered if a minimum of 24 semester hours in accounting courses and 18 hours in business related courses has been met. A license as a Certified Public Accountant may be substituted for the Accounting degree.


Candidates with extensive experience in the preparation of audited financial statement are highly desired! Selective preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated knowledge of the GASB reporting model and experience in the preparation of the CAFR.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.
