Software Engineer-Oracle/PL-SQL – DB Architect

As the Database Architect/DB Developer for the Vulnerability Management Service in Cyber Security, you will be responsible for all database aspects of the Vulnerability Management Service system from the database design to the implementation form the ground up. This position requires a strong self-starter with solid technical database programming background, who can lead the way towards a solid database architecture and design assist the development team with all database aspects, database trouble shooting performance tuning and any other database issues. You will partner closely with the developers of one or more Agile teams developing the Vulnerability Management Service to ensure that database issues or bottle necks and potential performance issues are avoided proactively by active education of developers, guidelines, review and governance of database development work.

As the Database Architect/DB Developer you are responsible for a solid, high quality, scalable database design that considers data security, audit, control, data classification, hygiene and retention requirements, as well as database maintenance and support.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Architect and design the database
  • Deliver high quality software following the Clean Code guidelines for design, build and test
  • Ensure compliance to JPMC’s and CCB’s policies, guidelines, processes and technology controls
  • Continuously drive database efficiencies
  • Continuously manage database performance and tuning of the application
  • Educate the team on database best practices

Bachelor’s Degree required or equivalent work experience and minimum 10+ years of experience in managing databases, preferably with an emphasis on Software as a Service and at least 5 years recent experience in the database development area in financial services industry, preferably working for a large bank.
  • Hands on experience with the latest database technologies, preferably Oracle
  • Hands on schema design experience
  • Hands on experience as a Database Administrator
  • Hands on experience with database trouble shooting, performance tuning & capacity planning
  • Hands on experience with SaaS architecture, scale, security and operations
  • Hands on experience with application and data security, data management and systems to systems integration
  • Hands on experience with implementing and using operational intelligence tools, preferably Splunk
  • Knowledge of Java Programming , J2EE and JDBC
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities while providing clear focus and direction to the team.
  • Experience working with resources that are geographically distributed and culturally diverse.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent judgment and decision making
  • Proven ability to make complex decisions based on experience, analysis and judgment.
  • Flexible, process-oriented, organized, with excellent analytical & troubleshooting skills
