Senior Product Designer – Digital

This job contributes to REI’s success by participating in improving the customer experience on REI’s digital properties by using text, data, graphics, sound, animation and other digital and visual effects, to create motion and micro-interactive elements that enhance the REI user experience. The ideal candidate has a proven ability to envision how motion design can help people experience our products and bring that vision to life in a way that feels inspired, refined and engaging. Using strong user-centered design principles, this role will take complex tasks and transform them into intuitive, fluid, accessible and easy-to-use interactions. This role requires that you collaborate closely with teams of Designers, Researchers, Engineers and Product Managers throughout the design process—from crafting user flows and wireframes to building user interface mockups and motion prototypes.

• Develops, defines and recommends a motion design language for REI websites and mobile devices
• Works closely with User Experience, Marketing, Development, Program Management and other teams to develop customer-centered features and interactions
• Applies user-centered design and motion best-practices to processes while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams
• Effectively uses and teaches relevant user experience and motion / interaction methods, such as how to apply a corporate design language, design frameworks, problem framing, motion principles, and overall design thinking
• Ensures maintenance of a cohesive customer experience as it evolves by contributing to a digital design system and pattern library
• Observes and analyzes website and mobile analytics and creates positive user experiences based on quantitative and qualitative customer behavior and feedback
• Able to deliver complete UI specifications, wireframes, workflows, motion studies, and high- and low-fidelity prototypes. Can provide motion cues and direction to developers and oversee implementation
• Ability to effectively communicate interactive and interface design data, design proposals, and product specifications and negotiate options at management levels.
• Provides innovative, customer-centric information, motion and microinteraction design recommendations that contribute to an enhanced user experience

Bring your passion and expertise
• 3+ years designing and prototyping motion experiences for digital products
• 3+ years in UX/UI design, interaction design or closely-related field

• Extensive experience with Sketch and Framer for prototyping microinteractions
• Previous experience creating low fidelity prototypes (using Axure, Invision, Flinto, pen & paper, etc)
• Ability to program in Javascipt and/or CoffeeScript
• Fluent in creating quick and dirty prototypes (e.g. animations with AfterEffects, click-throughs with Keynote, InVision, etc.)
• On-screen prototyping for complex, web-based applications (basic CSS, HTML, JS knowledge)
• Understanding of user-centered design methods and principles
• Strong knowledge of related disciplines such as marketing and brand communications
• Previous mobile design experience preferred
• Previous eCommerce design experience preferred
• Previous experience working with Agile methodologies preferred
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to promote open communication and teamwork

• Degree preferred in related discipline: interaction or interface design, human-computer interaction, user centered design (or equivalent)
