Operating System Engineer, 5 Mainframe Optimization Team

Job Description

Provide expert technical support and consultation for the optimization of application systems/subsystems or processes as part of the z/OS Mainframe Optimization Team. Provide analyses, and action recommendations for a highly available and productive mainframe computing environment. Perform analysis and document recommendations for change to effectively reclaim systems’ capacity or improve availability. Monitor and report the optimization results. Collect and report on performance, utilization and trending data that can be used for planning/growth or problem analysis.

The successful candidate will learn daily, grow professionally, and contribute significantly to the ongoing operation and future success of such a critical part of Wells Fargo’s business. Takes the technical lead in projects that are led by MMS project managers that require Optimization team participation. Volunteer to serve as project manager/leader/catalyst in Optimization team’s internal/external projects. Ensure deliverables are met with strong customer focus. Display strong strategic thinking and tactical planning skills. Author clear and auditable documentation in the team’s SharePoint (web site) as to policies, procedures and methodologies Adhere to published PAC2000 standards when implementing Change Requests, Work Orders and/or Work Requests as well as resolving PAC2000 Problem tickets. Ability to translate technical recommendations into easily understood business solutions for that portion of the audience which is non-technical. Have a passion for continuous improvement. There is limited to no on-call duties.

Candidate must have the ability to work independently on projects and interface with key areas (such as Mainframe Capacity Planning, Mainframe Performance, Mainframe Architecture, Mainframe Operating Systems and Mainframe Security) to complete projects and tasks in a timely fashion, sometimes under pressure. Able to multi-task, work well under tight deadlines with attention to detail, and be comfortable and effective working concurrently with different technical teams. Should be able to adapt to, and often drive change. Ability to partner with others to drive change. Candidate will also need to play more than one role within the team and must be able to deliver per commitments. Must be willing to occasionally extend oneself above and beyond the job description to support the achievement of objectives important to Wells Fargo. There is limited-to- no on-call, 24 x 7, requirements. Travel is very infrequent. Required Qualifications

7+ years of operating systems analysis experience, operating systems engineering experience, or a combination of both

5+ years of z/OS experience

8+ years of CICS experience

8+ years of Cobol experience

8+ years of DB2 experience Desired Qualifications

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to interact with all levels of an organization

Basic Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) skills

TSO (Time Sharing Options) experience

SAS programming experience in model implementation, reporting, and complex data manipulations

8+ years of Mainframe experience

8+ years of z/OS experience

Knowledge and understanding of technology object oriented: programming: C++, JavaScript, or Java Other Desired Qualifications

8+ years of IMS experience

Ability to influence technical AND non-technical decision makers to achieve desired technical results JCL coding and Job Processing techniques

Job Class Design and Exploitation

Parallel Sysplex and LPAR Functionality

Use and Exploitation of DB2 and IMS databases and their features/systems/subsystems

Good verbal and written communication skills Strong analytical and problem solving skills Ability to build and execute to technical requirements

Knowledge of z-series mainframe hardware and configurations

Continuous process improvement

MICS Software

Experience with Compuware’s Strobe and/or IBM’s APA software

Ability to leverage RMF and SMF data
