Monitoring Engineer

ILG is looking for a Monitoring Engineer to join their IT Enterprise Event Management and Monitoring team. This position will play a key role employing standards for Interval’s infrastructure and application monitoring. This person will need to excel in a fast paced and dynamic environment with ability to multi-task and administer application monitoring solutions for complex applications & platforms. The Monitoring Engineer must be a collaborative, self-starter and have a sound business minded approach to design and service solutions

Responsibilities

• Work with IT Engineering and IT Operations to determine application dependencies and implement monitors and alerts. The engineer position will maintain, service, and enhance established pro-active monitoring solutions for all business/mission critical applications.
• Responsible for making suggestions and improvements to the existing monitoring processes
• The position will be expected to administer and upgrade Performance monitoring & Infrastructure monitoring tools such as Orion, CA Spectrum, CA EHealth, CA VAIM, CA Wily (APM/Introscope, CEM), Keynote, Splunk, SCOM.
• Instrument end-to-end monitoring for web-based transactions that traverse multiple applications and technologies (JVMs, Messaging, Enterprise Service Bus, eCommerce Transactions, Citrix)
• Provide on-call 24×7 support for the monitoring infrastructure
• The position will play a role in generation, management and reporting the application performance data as captured by the monitoring tools and proactively work with application, operations and network teams in resolving performance issues to improve customer experience for mission/business critical IT applications.

Required Qualifications

• Experience in an engineering function: Linux, Intel, Network, Windows
• Working knowledge of server operating systems (Windows, Linux)
• Working knowledge of SNMP.
• Ability to work under tight timeline and pressure. Be able to prioritize and work effectively with competing deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving abilities
• Excellent technical/analytical skills
• Preferred Qualifications
• 3+ years experience with monitoring solutions
• Experience in monitoring for applications running on J2EE, JVMs, Jboss, ESB, Messaging
• Working knowledge of database technologies (e.g. Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server)
• Working knowledge of transaction types such as HTTP, HTTPS, SOAP, and XML.
• Working knowledge of Apache, Tomcat, network basics (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, SOAP, SNMP)
