Marketing: defining, marketing and protecting the Standard Bank brand across our business – including specialist advice and activity for specific countries and business units.

Job Purpose

Manage and execute marketing and communications campaigns and projects. Also contribute in the development of marketing and communications strategy and plans for the relevant portfolio.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

Participate in the development / review of marketing and communication strategies, policies and plans for particular portfolios:

  • Ensure alignment to the business strategy for the relevant portfolios and the Marketing & Communications strategy.
  • Translate the marketing & communication strategy and develop detailed marketing & communication plans Review business unit marketing strategies and plans on a regular basis
  • Participate in the development of operational plans and oversee the implementation thereof.
  • Identify the need for the development / review of marketing policies.

  • Manage Marketing & Communication Initiatives:

  • Manage marketing and communication activities to promote products and services.
  • Manage and improve lead marketing campaigns
  • Measuring results, plan and ensure implementation of promotional campaigns
  • Manage the creation and publication of all marketing and communication material in line with marketing and communication strategies.
  • Evaluate all Marketing and Communication campaigns by:
  • setting up targets,
  • identifying measurement tools and reporting
  • Track trends and use insights to improve effectiveness and efficiency of marketing and communications.
  • Manage marketing campaigns within approved costs, quality and timelines.
  • Approve and submit the reporting dashboard on all marketing and communication campaigns.
  • Monitor and propose action to ensure the effectiveness of marketing and communication campaigns.

  • Drive effective Project Management of Marketing related projects for the Business:

  • Drive all aspects of marketing and communication projects including: meeting deadlines, time management, contingency planning, approval channels, and procedures, budgeting, campaign analysis, and monitoring procedures;
  • Establish and articulate project scope, strategy and objectives to internal Clients, production team, key leadership;
  • Oversee production of online and offline marketing assets from initial concept to finished product and execution.

  • Commission Marketing research and competitive intelligence:

  • Request market research surveys and studies to identify potential markets for products and services
  • Analyse research results and develop customer insights.
  • Make recommendations based on research outcomes to the business and Senior Marketing.

  • Monitor Risk and Compliance:

  • Manage Risk timeously and report incidents
  • Partner with Compliance to ensure that all marketing activities are compliant with regulatory frameworks;
  • Drive effective mandatory compliance training in Group Marketing
  • Complete mandatory compliance training.

  • Building Client Relationship :

  • Drive ongoing liaison with key internal and external stakeholders;
  • Maintain partnerships with Group Vendor Management and Procurement in negotiating best rates/ prices with marketing service providers;
  • Manage the on boarding process of new advertising agencies.

  • People Management:

  • Manage a team to ensure effective delivery of objectives for the area.
  • Develop a high performing team by embedding the bank’s performance process, regular performance feedback and coaching. Address poor performance.
  • Motivate team members and ensure that they receive recognition for work well done.
  • Maintain a succession plan for the team by reviewing the skills of the team at least twice a year and having career conversations with them.
  • Determine development needs of the team and ensure that development opportunities (training, rotation, on-the-job learning) are budgeted for and executed.
  • Interview and recruit new members of the team, including determining the appropriate salary with input from the Human Capital Business Partner.
  • Create workforce plans for the area to ensure that current and future business requirements can be met. Such plans should be revisited at least twice a year.
  • Use workforce plans to obtain headcount approvals on an annual basis and as input into the financial budgeting cycles.
  • Create quarterly leave plans to ensure adequate coverage. Approve leave requests ad leave sale requests.
  • Monitor overtime on a monthly basis. Analyse reasons for overtime and create actions to address the issues.
  • When required, initiate disciplinary processes for team members. Resolve grievances raised by team members, escalating only if required.
  • Preferred Qualification and Experience

    Degree in Marketing / Social Sciences.
    5-7 years experience in arketing and Communications.
    This role will need to ensure strategies and plans align closely to those of the other business unit marketing strategies and plans to support the drive toward an aligned marketing strategy
