Infrastructure Engineer

Role Purpose

The Infrastructure Engineer will serve as the corporate IT technical liaison for internal customers. Helping to provide solutions that meet the customer needs and expectations, including concept, functional features, system architecture, and design process. This role will also be responsible for supporting key technology initiatives including server and storage hardware refresh, operating system refresh, server consolidation, and disaster recovery, capacity planning as well as taking an active role in large projects. Additionally, this role will be called up to provide technology generalist type duties from time to time to Owned Television Stations (OTS) 40 television stations.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for technical engagement providing facilitation of end-to-end delivery of key projects for the owned stations local IT groups.
  • Delivery of project engagement tasks to the internal customer
  • Be highly responsive to internal customer requests
  • Responsible for implementations and assistance of EMC ISILON, Unity or VNX, and NetApp infrastructures (including both physical and virtualized environments).
  • Responsible for building sound business cases and develop ideas that balance the need for best of breed product selection and efficient solution development.
  • Responsible for providing L3 support and willingness to participate in off-hour maintenance activities with NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations.
  • Responsible for the development, justification, and implementation of specific Proof-of-Concept as it relates to emerging technologies with an emphasis on information security, form-fit-function in a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week television studio environments.
  • Responsible for coordination with internal Information Security teams on information security best practices implementations and tasks as it relates to the NBCUNI owned television stations.

Qualifications/Requirements

Basic Qualifications

B.S. degree in Information Technology, Business Administration or equivalent experience
The preferred candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, writing, meeting facilitation and presentation skills including presenting the technical design, technical solutions, and enterprise architecture solutions.
Must be able to manage time and manage customer expectations.
Candidate must have significant exposure to enterprise rackmount and blade server platforms (HP, Cisco).
Knowledge of Linux Operating Systems, e.g., Oracle Linux, Redhat Linux
Minimum 5 years’ experience in Windows Operating System, preferably server 2008, and Server 2012, including Windows clustering
Experience building and configuring data center-class servers (Cisco UCS, rack mount/blades) including drivers/firmware and documentation
Candidate must have significant exposure to one or more of the following storage platforms (NetApp, EMC, HP, Isilon, Pure, Nimble, Dell, or Cloudian).
Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft SCCM, Active Directory
General knowledge in support of MS SQL Clusters.
Ability to manage multiple customer expectations in a given work day.

Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as work well in groups.
Ability to collaborate with local IT support resources and to provide advice and support related to database, web, server and storage environments.
Experience with Newsroom workflow systems such as Dalet, Grass Valley, and Avid is a plus
Technical certifications and designations highly preferred.
Minimum 2 years’ experience on VMWare ESX/ESXi within a large enterprise.
Experience deploying Teradici a plus
Broad knowledge of high-performance, highly-available computing environments and integration of technical products into complex environments.
Media Industry experience is preferred, but not required.
Former server/storage vendor experience (pre-sales role) is a plus but is not required
English fluency is required, and Spanish proficiency is a plus but is not required
