Float Lunchroom Assistant-3.0 hours daily

Hourly Pay Rate: $15.72-$18.91

Under the general supervision of the Kitchen Manager or designee, assists in the preparation and serving of nutritious and wholesome meals following District procedures and standards and under required food safety and sanitary conditions. This position may work in any District meal site (school, deli and/or central kitchen).

Position reports to: Director, Nutrition Services

Essential Functions

1. Assists in the preparation, packaging, serving and/or distribution of attractive, high quality, nutritious, cost effective meals following standardized procedures, which may include cooking, baking, and/or salad making, according to the established work schedule, following menu planners, following standardized recipes as well as meeting District standards including portioning standards, food production/preparation standards and procedures. Uses appropriate equipment.

2. Assists in the cleaning of kitchen, equipment, tables and storeroom as scheduled by the manager. Reports equipment malfunctions to manager to insure safe working conditions. (25% of the time)

3. Assists in maintaining appropriate food and supply inventories. (10% of the time)

4. May relieve or assist other unit employees in higher meal preparation tasks to meet emergencies, on-the-job training situations or as necessary to maintain the operation of the cafeteria unit or as assigned by the Kitchen Manager and her/his designee. (10% of the time)

5. Collects money and accounts for meals served according to established procedures by computer or other designated procedure. Understands and complies with Federal, State, and local requirements for meal reimbursement and menu planner documentation. (5% of the time)

6. Assists in maintaining HACCP records, understanding HACCP procedures and complying with food safety and sanitation procedures. (5% of the time)

Other Functions:
Participates in yearly food safety and sanitation training.
Promotes SPS and Nutrition Services Department Vision, Mission and Goals.
Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Certifications & Licenses:
Food Handler’s Permit
Clearances:
Criminal Justice Fingerprint or Background Check.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge:
Food preparation techniques and procedures.
Food safety and sanitation
Basic math
Modern methods of food preparation, including recipe adjustment; acceptable product standards, including quality and sanitation aspects; basic math; basic computer operation.
Skills:
Communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
Team work.
Abilities:
Read and write in English
Do simple math calculations.
Do simple banking requirements.
Count change.
Follow instructions and use fundamentals of food preparation techniques and procedures following approved safety and sanitation requirements.
Learn Federal, State and Local requirements for the National School Lunch Programs.
Operate all types of commercial kitchen equipment, including a mechanical aptitude for operating/adjusting complex equipment.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others, including students, staff and the public.

Work under supervision following written and oral instruction.

Learn and operate Nutrition Services computerized system for meal accountability and maintaining records.

Complete assigned tasks within time allocated.
