Data Center Administrator

We’re currently looking for a Data Center Administrator with a track record of designing, implementing, and administrating complex data centers to work for our high-visibility client’s U.S. headquarters.

The successful candidate will have hands-on VMware ESXi experience in an enterprise, mission critical environment. Must be able to deploy an ESXi host to specifications and safely add to a production vCenter. Additionally the candidate must have a background in basic network administration, including Cisco IOS and ASA configuration and deployment experience. Must be well versed in switchport configuration, the types of switch ports, access lists, and best methods for avoiding risk and impact. VMware vSAN and VMware NSX experience is a big plus

Operational Excellence and Scope:

  • Provide end-to-end coverage of regional infrastructure: Servers, OS, Storage, Network, Telephony, Security & Compliance, and Monitoring
  • Design efficient and repeatable processes for installing / rebuilding existing infrastructure components in accordance with organizational standards and project requirements
  • Participate in systems and services monitoring, backups, and recovery operations; includes verifying the integrity, availability, and recoverability of all hardware, and services, reviewing system and application logs, supporting and verifying data backup and recovery operations
  • Support setup and maintenance of KPIs and SLAs
  • Participate in after-hours support
  • Support the Data Center Services Manager in financial activities such as forecasting, procurement, ongoing cost management

Strategy and Systems Architecture:

  • Drive the increase of data center service levels and customer experience!
  • Work with architects, IT management, and external partners to contribute to a roadmap for the North America data centers
  • Support long-term operational planning and lead individual project planning and execution considering resource and budget availability
  • Provide business cases and proposals for new technology initiatives to stakeholders on multiple levels (technical, end users, executive management, financial decision makers)

Security:

  • Support audits / assessments and propose projects for network and system level hardening
  • Identify processes and automation solutions for performing regular monitoring to identify possible security concerns
  • Support investigations with reporting, analysis, threat classification, basic forensics, regulatory / compliance assessment, and determination of business impact

JOB REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 8+ years of in-depth working knowledge of enterprise server, network and storage technologies
  • Ability to work independently, yet be a great team player in a flexible and fast-paced business environment

REQUIRED TECHNICAL SKILLS (Certifications Welcome):

Primary:

  • VMware SDDC technologies including vSphere, vCenter, and Vsan (NSX experience a plus)
  • Storage Area Network technologies including iSCSI and FibreChannel
  • Microsoft Active Directory Administration
  • Windows and Linux Server Administration
  • Cisco IOS and Cisco ASA
  • Security (AntiVirus, Hardening Best Practices, Network and System Forensics)

Secondary:

  • WAN Technologies (MPLS)
  • Telco / VoIP
  • Data Center Automation
  • Data Center Infrastructure Operations (Power, Cabling, Cooling)
  • Client and IBM Storage Management
  • Backups / Archiving; experience with BackupExec or NetBackup a plus

Value adds:

  • Experience with Splunk for monitoring, visualizations, troubleshooting, and actionable event correlation a plus

Soft Skills:

  • Experience in a team environment with both individual and shared goals
  • Experience with change management processes including documentation and risk management
  • Manufacturing support experience a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), including presentation to customers, peers, and senior / executive management
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • Compliance (FDA, HIPAA, ISO)
  • ITIL (experience in ITIL-based environments and/or certification) a plus
  • German language skill a plus

Education: Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration (BA / BS), MBA preferred or relevant experience (8+ years).
