Record daily revenue deposits into the campus receipting system from most campus departments. Assist with various year-end audit processes, including inventory. Coordinate designated monthly processes including journals for proper allocation of expenses to various departments and projects. Prepare the university’s excise tax returns. Cross-train with and provide backup support for other Office of Finance team members, including support for accounts payable. Provide excellent service to constituents.

Responsibilities:

  • Input daily deposits into PeopleSoft cashiering system from various university departments. Monitor accounting processes to ensure timely and accurate deposits that reconcile with bank records.
  • Set up new and maintain the current monthly accounting for all internal lease transactions.
  • Prepare the state of Washington monthly and City of Tacoma quarterly excise tax returns of the university.
  • Coordinate Office of Finance work with year-end inventory counts for the bookstore, dining and conference services, and procurement including preparation of workpapers and documentation to support year-end inventory valuations.
  • Ensure that all required journals are made to record monthly departmental recharges. This includes working with campus constituents to setup and provide information needed to record the journals.
  • Monitor daily the journal generator in PeopleSoft for journal entries that require posting.
  • Prepare various accounting reconciliations related to procurement card transactions
  • Maintain bank fee analysis spreadsheet; identify anomalies and elevate communication appropriately.
  • Monitor Office of Finance listserv for requested accounting entries, forward issues to appropriate Office of Finance members, communicate with campus as needed for follow-up to the requests, and coordinate the preparation of the accounting entries.
  • Provide backup as assigned for Office of Finance team members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Emphasis in accounting or related field of study highly preferred.
  • Must have at least one year work experience in accounting, with non-profit accounting preferred
  • Possess or have an ability to acquire knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), accrual basis accounting applicable to not-for-profit organizations.
  • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively and clearly communicate financial information to all campus constituents with understanding.
  • Must demonstrate initiative, self-direction, ownership of projects, ability to meet deadlines, attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and excellent organization, follow-through, and problem solving skills.
  • Must have superior aptitude for and skill with technology, including learning new technology and understanding data queries and advanced excel capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks if required.
  • Must be able to work beyond the usual or ordinary requirements of the position if needed to meet university and regulatory timelines and due dates.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and respond positively to changing
  • Requires experience with complex, computerized accounting systems. Experience with using the Internet and a Web-based application is preferred.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft Financials is highly desirable.
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community
