Position Summary and Duties

Provide timely, accurate and efficient processing of the daily financial accounting operations of the University, including preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts for monthly general ledger close and identifying and implementing recommendations to elevate level of services provided to internal and external customers to improve operating efficiency and effectiveness.

Reconcile specific general ledger accounts.

Prepare related journal entries and reconciliations.

Actively participate in the month-end close process.

Process general ledger entries.

Perform general ledger maintenance as needed.

Review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.

Analyze the daily activity of bank accounts and investigate cash transactions and discrepancies as needed.

Complete ad-hoc reports and projects, as required.

Assist in the analysis and preparation of various reports, accompanying schedules, worksheets, narratives, supporting schedules, and variance review for the annual financial, Single Audit, NCAA agreed-upon procedures and other internal and external reports.

Identify and implement recommendations to elevate level of services provided to internal customers and improve operating efficiency and effectiveness.

Train as back up to the Senior Accountant in all areas.

Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related field.

3-5 years of relevant experience.

Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles ( GAAP ).

Knowledge of statutory accounting principles.

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for both general ledger and statutory accounting.

Working knowledge of internal controls, general ledger, and financial statements.

Detail-oriented with strong analytical and accounting skills.

Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Office applications, principally Excel and Word.

Demonstrated evidence of building collegiate relationships and leading effective work groups.

Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Commitment to support the University’s mission and values and work collaboratively with all University constituents.

Must be able to support the University’s goals for institutional diversity, as well as the goals and values of a Catholic, Jesuit education.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with varying degrees of difficulty.

Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.

Preferred Qualifications

C.P.A. track preferred.

Experience in public accounting and higher education or other not-for-profit organization strongly preferred.
