Reporting to the Manager of Cash Operations, the Accountant is a key member of the Financial Reporting and Operations team for the University. The Accountant prepares monthly reconciliations of various University operating bank accounts and performs monthly reconciliation and analysis of general ledger accounts; assists with the monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes for the University and prepares schedules and analysis on behalf of the team; collects and reviews departmental bank reconciliations for domestic and foreign bank accounts; prepares and processes journal entries for both daily activity and revenue received in foreign bank accounts; works with University divisions to establish new and/or modify existing petty cash funds; analyzes current procedures and makes recommendations to improve processes.

The candidate will also support the University community by providing information and guidance through effective customer service and support related to the chart of accounts and cash accounting; is responsible for daily oversight of banking activity and in this capacity, acts as liaison with other University divisions and with banks to investigate and resolve questions regarding cash transactions; partners with immediate supervisors to analyze issues and determine resolution or routes to appropriate business unit as necessary. Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business or related field and/or the equivalent required, plus a minimum of three years’ related experience required.

Strong proficiency in bank reconciliations required. Must be detail oriented, and have excellent spreadsheet and analytical skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel. Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including active listening, is required to effectively communicate with a variety of audiences. Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a demanding environment required. Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines for short-term, long-term and ad-hoc assignments. Must be able to identify priorities within multiple assignments in a high-pressure, short-term deadline environment, and be able to work with diplomacy and efficiency in such an environment. Must have a passion for excellent customer service and commitment to exceptional quality.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with PeopleSoft financial systems preferred. Experience in a university or not-for-profit setting desirable.
