z/OS Mainframe Network Systems Admin/Programmer

Education:

  • 4-yr College Degree preferably Information Systems or Computer Science
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) not required but a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, maintain, & support mission critical mainframe network infrastructure consisting of TCPIP, VTAM, telnet, and FTP.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose communication issues both within the mainframe and between the mainframe and the corporate network
  • Monitor and manage mainframe network performance
  • Define and activate mainframe printer definitions
  • Support Network team during corporate network changes
  • Troubleshoot TN3270/printer connectivity issues
  • Use network monitor tools to manage and diagnose mainframe network resources including IP trace
  • Install, upgrade, and maintain monitoring tools and software applications supported by the group.
  • Provide 24×7 on-call network support including daily monitoring of problem management ticket queue for reports of service issues.
  • Coordinate with hardware and software vendors for support and future project work
  • Create comprehensive documentation, conduct thorough testing, and follow defined change control processes.
  • Effectively communicate with end-users, application programmers, co-workers, managers, and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative and attention to detail during daily operations

    Skills Required

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience installing, configuring, and implementing mainframe network protocols in a large IT environment
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with all facets of z/OS Communications Server including TCPIP, FTP, TN3270, and Enterprise Extender
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in mainframe systems z/OS, ISPF, JCL
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with LPD, PCL, and AFP print technologies
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with mainframe third party software installation (SMP/E) and support
  • Extensive experience supporting and implementing DVIPA
  • Experience with Cobol, REXX, Assembler, JCL
  • High level of initiative and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with application build tools
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent customer support skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Skills Preferred

  • Familiarity with VPS, XPTR/Content Server, Content Integrator, ChangeMan or other Change control tool (i.e. ISPW), TN3270 emulators (ex. IBM Personal Communications, Jolly Giant QWS)
  • Experience reading IP traces…Wireshark knowledge a plus
  • Experience working with vendors and customers for support and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with HP Service Manager from a user perspective
