The Transportation Assistant independently manages the Boise VA Medical Center’s Beneficiary Travel Program. They provide transportation at Government expense to beneficiaries and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities and other places for the purpose of examination, treatment or care. Duties include but are not limited to:

Correctly determining eligibility for the program, and processing requests.

Determining which of several fund control points to utilize, obligating funds, maintaining manual and electronic accounting records, performing regular reconciliations and adjusting account balances.

Contacting approving officials to authorize obligations and requests for additions, deductions, and/or movement of funds.

Making necessary changes to fund control points.

Corresponding with Fiscal Service upon any clarification of posting on control points.

Determining method of payment for authorized and unauthorized ambulance claims.

Investigating authorizations, orders, and/or utilizes the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) to review medical records, forwarding for supervisory approval and submitting all documents for payment utilizing appropriate control point for reference.

Explaining there regulatory guidelines to beneficiaries for submitting any unauthorized ambulance claims to the VA Medical Center for consideration of payment.

Balancing, reconciling, and adjusting invoices for payment.

Documenting and preparing monthly account synopsis for contracting officials in Acquisition & Materiel Management Service quarterly to justify yearly ambulance contractual compliance.

Arranging all modes of transportation via air ambulance, commercial air, taxi, ambulance, bus and/or independent transports.

Communicating and interacting with patients in a manner which is appropriate to cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient.

Assuring that all appropriate VA forms are used correctly and regulations followed.

Preparing all paperwork to tune in all unclaimed monies or valuables in a timely manner.

Preparing and submitting monthly Patient Funds monitors as required by the service in a timely manner.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:

Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS 4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA’s) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Authorizing payments, reviewing invoices, corresponding with contracting officers, creating reports on usage of funds, and arrranging tranporatio. OR,

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you mut have four (4) years of education above high school. OR,

Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Note : A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work requires no special physical demands, but will require some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting.
