Software Engineer
Responsibilities:

• Implement and manage software quality policies, systems, and processes.
• Perform the role of development lead on software projects to ensure that all deliverables meet quality, cost, schedule and performance objectives.
• Participate in project planning and estimation.
• As an integral team member on development projects, participate in software requirements specifications and design document creation with a focus on testability.
• Participate in project change control board meetings to review and evaluate product change requests.
• Evaluate, select, and implement new technologies for existing and future product.
• Supervise and mentor Associate Software Engineers.
• Work with the Software Process Group to identify and support standard methods, and common tools and scripts.
• To grow the expertise of software personnel, determine the type of skills and knowledge required for them to meet or exceed the needs of development projects.
• Develop and conduct internal training programs. Define training standards for personnel.
• Continuously identify, measure, follow, and improve R&D processes.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent degree
• Typically 6+ years experience in Graphical User Interface applications in Windows environments
• Knowledge of object oriented design
• Knowledge and experience in object oriented languages (Delphi , C++, C#, Java)
• Knowledge and experience with scripting languages (e.g. Python, Perl, JavaScript)
• Knowledge and experience developing and testing on current Windows and Linux based operating systems
• Knowledge and experience in all phases of software development lifecycle activities
• Excellent leadership and communication skills
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
• Background check results satisfactory to SEL
• Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of communication protocols (e.g. Telnet, SSH, FTP, serial communications)
• Knowledge of SQL and SQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, SQL Server)
• Experience with automated unit testing (e.g. MSTest, NUnit)
• Knowledge of SEL products and the electric power industry
