The position:
Build is looking for a proficient software developer, who is passionate about learning new technologies and deeply understands the “full stack”. You will develop full-stack software focused around Site reliability and work with product teams to plan architecture choices and implement best practices. Our SRE team is tasked with Increasing Site availability/reliability as well as releasability. We are owners of the CI/CD deployment pipeline in which we develop build processes and integrate technologies to streamline our releases. As we increase the number of deployments we also want to ensure that things are not going south, so we engineer and implement monitoring solutions. The SRE team is a new addition to the group of teams in Software development! There is a lot of energy and momentum behind growing this team. It is a great opportunity to become well versed in all facets of Build.com’s technology stack.

What are you going to do:

  • Day in the life – Working with the team you will be tasked with various engineering tasks that are focused around the Site Reliability team’s goals. On the side, you will also be keeping an eye out for fires that may occur and working with teams on putting those fires out.
  • Long-term responsibilities will be an ongoing focus of identifying problem areas of and working out a solution to automate, tool, schedule improvements into the systems. Depending on your areas of interest and capabilities you will be responsible for an area of the infrastructure or business to do some deep dives
  • This person will work with a team of 4 amount of people.
  • Success of a site reliability engineer is different than a traditional product feature engineering, in that we are focusing on improvements to reliability, availability, releasability. Improvements to these areas from your contributions highlight your success.

What are you going to bring to the table:

  • 5-7 years of software development experience; emphasis on ECommerce a big plus
  • Knowledge of web-based applications, testing tools
  • Experience with web commerce-related web applications (eCommerce, transactional sites)
  • Experience with analytics and the drive to work with data

SRE Specific:

  • Experience with of the following python, java, javascript, spring, shell scripting, Varnish VCL
  • Ability to lead technical teams through design and implementation across an organization.
  • Analytical querying capabilities, familiarity with statistical analysis
  • Solid understanding of a Linux environment and the networking stack.
  • Familiarity of working with distributed systems, high availability, load balancing, configuration management, service discovery, messaging
  • Familiarity with monitoring architectures and patterns
  • Capability to troubleshoot under high pressure
  • Deep Understanding of CI/CD systems
  • Understanding and familiarity of TDD,BDD
  • Production cloud and/or containers experience a plus
