A Senior Engineer is
part of a key team of Nordstrom Technology professionals that applies
scientific, mathematical and social principles to design, build, and maintain
technology products, devices, systems and solutions. These technology products
and solutions provide amazing customer experiences while meeting the needs of
the business.

A day in
the life…

As an Linux Platform engineer
you will be working as part of a larger team of engineers delivering platform solutions
to application teams. You will deliver scalable, resilient solutions for
applications leveraging packaged and open source solutions. Repetitive tasks
are your enemy and automation is your ally.

• You
  design and deploy Linux platforms for Nordstrom.
• You
  implement and champion a devops mindset through infrastructure as code, and are
  willing to collaborate with others to do the same
• You
  work closely with partner teams and demonstrate a commitment to their success.
  This includes mentoring, teaching others, and forming relationships required to
  grow as a Nordstrom team member
• You
  are comfortable with writing tests and verifying the code and configurations
  you create
• You
  exhibit a strong desire to learn new tools, technologies, and processes and
  drive acceptance and adoption amongst your peers by doing
• You
  have an understanding of the core ideals embodied in Continuous Integration and
  Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), including “everything under source control”,
  “automate everything”, and “quality is everyone’s job”
• You
  work in a team environment to provide rotating 24X7 support of engineering
  platform services

You own this if you have…

• Expert
  knowledge of the Linux operating system, and can help develop a roadmap and
  strategy for our platforms as we create a Platform as a Service (PaaS) at
  Nordstrom.
• Expert
  level experience with Chef or similar configuration management tool to manage
  infrastructure as code
• Familiarity
  working with Amazon AWS
• Experience
  using continuous delivery pipelines and creating unit tests for infrastructure
  code
• Strong,
  demonstrated use of Java, Javascript, Ruby, Bash, or Powershell
  programming/scripting languages to automate all the things
• Experience
  with source control systems such as Git
• Understanding
  of software development methodologies and practices, including agile
  development, continuous integration and continuous delivery
• 5+
  Years of system administration experience on mission-critical, enterprise level
  systems
• 3+
  Years of Red Hat Administration experience.
  Certification preferred.
• Working
  knowledge of BigIP and Solaris administration is a plus
• Experience
  troubleshooting performance on multi-hosted, physical, and virtual platforms
• BS in
  Computer Science or a related field preferred
