Position Overview:
The Research & Planning Analyst in the Office of Institutional Research will extract, analyze, visualize, and describe a variety of institutional data for use internally for academic and financial planning and decision making. The Research & Planning Analyst will focus on analysis and reports to better inform decision making in the Colleges and Schools under the university’s incentive-based budget model in addition to other Institutional Research priorities that contribute to a data-informed culture at Boise State University
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver College and School-specific reports of the metrics used in the University’s incentive-based budget model.
  • Develop enrollment projections, conduct sensitivity or what-if analyses, and estimates.
  • Employ quantitative and qualitative research methods to complete additional data analyses to answer strategic, tactical, structured or unstructured business questions.
  • Regularly conduct post-implementation reviews of the budget model; monitor, analyze, and report on the impact of the budget model on various outcomes.
  • Develop reports, data visualizations, and communications relevant to the budget model
  • Prepare written reports, visual data displays, and other types of presentations to assist in communicating budget model data and analyses to a variety of audiences and stakeholders.
  • Engage in data quality, documentation, and process improvement.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the culture of a data-driven university, serve on committees and workgroups as assigned, participate in professional development, and perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly verbally and in written, numerical, and graphical forms.
  • Ability to work as part of a team of professionals and collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
  • The position also requires: a high level of accuracy, extraordinary attention to details, solid proofreading skills, ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines, and adherence to ethical and legal standards in institutional research.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required in social sciences, business, economics, mathematics or a related field plus five years of professional experience in a role that requires skills similar to those described in the essential duties for this position.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in social science, business, economics, higher education administration, statistics, or other relevant field.
  • Professional experience applying analytical and problem solving skills, including demonstrated skills in social science research methods and analysis.
  • Proficiency in data exploration, extraction, and analysis including working with statistical analysis software (e.g., SAS, SPSS), programming languages (e.g., SQL, SAS), and PeopleSoft or other enterprise reporting system.
  • Experience in institutional research, functional data area, or other higher education analysis and reporting.
Salary: Minimum starting salary $56,200. Final salary will depend upon qualifications and experience.
