Project Manager – Boise, ID

Portland Webworks is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our Project Management and Quality Assurance team. Knowledge of open source technologies and software development SDLC best practices, as well as experience working with external clients is a must.

Portland Webworks operates using Agile principles, specifically Scrum, so Project Managers can expect to work within self-organizing teams focused on efficiency, transparency and providing business value to our clients.

As a Project Manager at Portland Webworks, you can expect to:

  • Communicate directly with clients via timely and professional written and verbal communication
  • Set and manage expectations throughout the client relationship
  • Provide consultation and work with clients to nurture business development opportunities
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver estimates to clients for new project work, keeping the business development team apprised of potential and closed opportunities
  • Ensure contracts, purchase orders, etc. are current and accurate
  • Ensure scope changes are documented and billed appropriately
  • Resolve conflicts and project level escalations
  • All other duties as assigned

For some projects, a Project Manager plays the role of ScrumMaster and can expect to:

  • Facilitate the Scrum process and team self-organization
  • Remove obstacles and shield the team from interference
  • Improve team performance
  • Support and coach Scrum teams responsible for delivering software
  • Work with the Product Owner to:
    • Find techniques for effective product backlog management
    • Clearly communicate vision, goals, and product backlog items to the team
    • Teach the Scrum Team to create clear and concise product backlog items
    • Understand long-term product planning in a Scrum environment
    • Understand and implement the values of the Agile Manifesto
    • Facilitate Scrum events such as release planning, product backlog grooming,sprint planning, daily scrum and sprint reviews (including team demos), and sprint retrospectives
  • All other duties as assigned

For some projects, a Project Manager plays the role of Product Owner and can expect to:

  • Understand the client’s business model and desired business benefits
  • Build and groom the product backlog
  • Act as business analyst and be able to elicit, describe and prioritize the client’s business requirements and product features (includes wireframing functionality associated with requirements and/or other usability and interaction design tactics)
  • Answer development questions and reconcile differences
  • Collaborate closely with the ScrumMaster and project team
  • Ensure development decisions align with business goals
  • Track budget and project expenditures
  • Be responsible for month-end invoicing
  • Understand project progress, ensure accurate burndown charts
  • Coordinate implementation activities with clients
  • Advocate for resources to complete the project
  • Participate in Scrum events such as release planning, product backlog grooming, sprint planning, daily scrum and sprint reviews (including team demos), and sprint retrospectives
  • All other duties as assigned
