Library Assistant

Performs paraprofessional library services by linking resources and customers, and promotes community civil discourse. A Library Assistant serves at a variety of public service points assisting patrons to identify and locate resources Offers a variety of programming, and content creation. This recruitment is for a Part-Time, non-benefited position.

Selection Process: Applicants whose education, training and experience most closely meet the needs of the position may be invited to participate in a selection process to include a panel interview and an assessment exercise. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include:

Fingerprinting

Criminal Background screening for the past 7 years

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.

Six months of library or related experience.

An equivalent combination of education and job related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis. Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following tasks:

Provide and model exceptional customer service by making the customer the first priority.

Teach and collaborate with customers, staff, and a variety of organizations to create content, to be effective consumers of information, and to be a lifelong learner.

Communicate library policies and procedures, request compliance with Library Rules of Conduct, and serve as “In-Charge” person in the evenings, on weekends, and as assigned.

Assist with administrative duties to support work unit which may include scheduling, statistics, records and customer account maintenance, materials handling, collection management software, and data entry.

Work at all public service points to include Customer Service Desk where payments are processed.

Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds.

Reach, bend, stoop, lift and move arms above shoulder level; lift and carry library materials.
