IT SOFTWARE ENGINEER – AUTOMATION

Job Description

As a Fab 4 Automation Software Engineer, you will work within a team environment that supports, creates and maintains IT solutions for the Process R&D 300mm facility in Boise Idaho. This role requires great IT troubleshooting skills, attention to detail and the competency to learn on the fly. The team supports critical manufacturing software/databases as well as Data Analysis systems that evolve our technology as a company. Software engineers in this team collaborate extensively with others to maintain high quality software support, delivery and uptime to the facility.

Other duties include participating in a 24×7 on-call rotation; establishing and maintaining effective relationships with customers, developers, and infrastructure groups across all sites; travel to remote sites may also be required.


Responsibilities and Tasks

Coordination and support of tool automation:

  • Work with area experts and automation developers to automate tools and implement host enhancements in a timely manner
  • Assist in the prioritization and requirement gathering for new hosts and host enhancements
  • Work with the automation developers and tool owners to schedule tool time for automation testing and upgrades
  • Provide expertise and assistance in setup as tool owners and automation developers design and test new hosts and enhancements
  • Participate in a wide variety of automation projects
  • Strive for automation alignment of the 300mm Fabs. Actively work with representatives world wide to implement the best know system
  • Maintain documentation around procedures and protocols
  • Weekly status reports to managers for all ongoing projects
  • Aid in debugging automation problems within a daily support role


Provide automation software support and integration:

  • Support software development teams in defining requirements for enhancements
  • Assist in the creation of training documentation for software enhancements
  • Provide testing of manufacturing applications for software releases
  • Work with the Fab Software Support team to find and implement solutions to guarantee software resiliency
  • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the support tools through day to day problem solving efforts
  • Provides and reviews reporting accuracy of R&D automation systems relative to WW standards.
  • These reports allow visibility into differences within the WW 300mm Fabs
  • Provides action plans to maintain current standards as new systems become available or deployed


Ensures Product Quality:

  • Completes work in an accurate and timely manner
  • Organizes tasks for maximum efficiency
  • Completes all required classes and applies learned skills and techniques on-the-job
  • Demonstrates awareness of changes to automation systems. Proactively looks to prevent downtime and product risk
  • Provides thorough and accurate passdown for backup coverage
  • Does not allow idle conversation to impact productivity


Drives Improvements & Enhancements:

  • Regularly makes suggestions to reduce errors
  • Generates alternative solutions when necessary
  • Offers suggestions for improvement. Provide support role for implementation
  • Completes documentation in a timely manner
  • Demonstrates proficient knowledge in software systems used in area
  • Demonstrates ability and desire to learn new systems and processes
  • Demonstrates effective trouble shooting skills in software systems used in area
  • Addresses issues and situations in a timely manner


Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates should have good communication, problem solving skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge in several of the following areas is a plus: C#, Visual Basic (.NET), MSSQL, Perl, Tcl, XML, HTML, Windows, Linux and Unix.
  • Experience in Automated Material Handling Systems is preferred
  • Focus on continuous improvement, results and driving work to achieve goals
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
  • The ability to solve problems across group boundaries


Education:

B.S. degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Electrical Engineering is required. Equivalent experience and/or other related certifications will be considered.
