JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) School Finance Section is seeking a Financial Analyst II.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Process monthly charter district payments; Using Access and/or SQL analyze results from the current payment calculations to determine changes; Determine causes for and validate all significant changes; Report findings prior to completion of payments; Generate payment requisition based on calculation results; Process through required approval levels
  • Manually process ADM Overrides, CHAR Descriptor changes, Base Support Adjustments and Payment Adjustments as needed for each payment
  • Manually calculate, analyze, distribute various small formula funding payments
  • Process monthly voucher payment for institutional and residential facilities
  • Provide customer service (phone calls and emails) to the charter district for payment related questions/concerns
  • Process the charter district 15-915 request
  • Provide data requested for both internal and external customers, creating new queries as needed using Access, SQL, and Excel
  • In-state travel required for this position


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge and understanding of payment and financial reporting
  • Applicants must have finance experience or a Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field.


SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Proficiency in oral and written communication
  • Analytical skills and computer application (initialize and develop information systems)
  • Statistical analysis procedures
  • Ad hoc query analysis
  • Highly detail oriented
  • Intermediate to advanced skill in using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and Internet Explorer

ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Write and interpret instructions for computer information systems
  • Ability to explain complex and sometimes confusing statutes
  • Establish priorities and meet time lines
  • Ability to complete research


SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S):

  • Preference will be given to those applicants with knowledge of Arizona school finance systems.

  • Position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment.
