The Application Support Engineer will be involved in the implementation and support of major

business Databases and applications. The successful applicant will have to use his/her skills and

experience to react quickly to find a solution to users’ urgent problems as they occur. A key

requirement is to be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of a database and

systems. Additional role requirements are likely to include planning, development and

troubleshooting.

The Systems Application Support Engineer will report to the Systems Manager .

KEY OUTPUTS:

  • Monitor Databases, Applications and services
  • Log Systems Incidents, Problems and Changes via the Service Management System
  • To provide application, systems, and database support
  • To take ownership of Tier 2 systems problems
  • Create and amend reports
  • Keep stakeholders up to date with progress to complete requests, changes, tasks, incidents

and problems.

  • To escalate more complex issues to management
  • Deliver on tasks contributing towards successful projects
  • Updating and creating new documents to include to the ICT knowledge base
  • To liaise with third parties to achieve the ICT objectives
  • Contribute to delivering an after-hours support services

Operational

  • Responsible for troubleshooting problems relating to SQL and front end applications, in such

a way that ensures minimum impact to andBeyond Computer users, whilst maintaining the

integrity of the data and systems.

  • Configure systems, applications and databases
  • Create new and enhance existing SQL/SSRS and Crystal reports
  • Create new and enhance existing systems workflows
  • Analyse business requirements and contribute to delivering technical solutions to meet

business objectives.

  • Contribute to the general maintenance of the databases and applications, including

upgrades.

  • Writing technical documentation, including updating systems standards, operating

procedures and system functionality.

  • Modifying the database structures against set requirements
  • Enrolling users and maintaining system security
  • Controlling and monitoring user access to databases
  • Backing up and restoring databases when required
  • Build database scheme, tables, procedures and permissions

Projects and Changes

  • On-going functionality analysis of software and research of new software.
  • To plan and implement changes while adhering to change controls.
  • Deliver on tasks that contribute towards successful and timely project delivery.
  • Contribute to the creation of Systems documentation
  • Deliverer as a member of project teams, including contributing to database development,

commissioning and installing new applications, customizing existing applications, and

migrating data.

  • Liaise with project managers, front end users and suppliers where necessary to meet project

deliverables

General

  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with fellow &Beyonders, service providers and

internal ICT team members

  • Keep abreast of changes, external as well as within the &Beyond environment, that could

impact IT services.

  • Pro-actively identify threats that could impact IT services negatively and opportunities that

could improve the uptime or value of IT services

  • Achieve a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill and knowledge in position-

related areas; keeping abreast of current developments and trends in area of expertise.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Consistent high standard of personal presentation
  • Expert communication skills, both verbal as well as written
  • Good Outlook, Word and Excel usage skills
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • 4 years’ experience working with Information Technology, preferably focusing on application

support and/or database administration

  • Experience of MS SQL Server in a working environment, including sound knowledge of

constructing SQL queries

  • Practical knowledge of the Windows desktop and server environment

  • Good knowledge of Information system terminologies, concepts, functions, policies, and

procedures

  • Extensive experience with SQL Reporting Services, Crystal Reports, VB.Net, Web Services and

XML

  • Knowledge or experience relating to ACCPAC, RMS, Tourplan and Maximizer is an advantage

Education/qualifications:

  • Relevant Certification, IT Diploma or Degree required

TRAVEL

Due to the nature of the work and the location of regional offices and lodges, intermittent traveling
