Parks, Recreation and Tourism at the University of Utah

Within our program, we advance individual, community, and environmental health through education, research, and action informed by the preventive, developmental, and rehabilitative powers of parks, recreation, and tourism. Our mission is to create, share, and apply knowledge about parks, recreation, and tourism to inspire students, inform policy, serve social needs, encourage sustainability and economic vitality, and advocate for the health of people, communities, and the environment of which we are part.

Assistant/Associate Professor – Nine Month Tenure Track Faculty Position

The Program of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism at the University of Utah is pleased to announce a nine-month tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor, to begin fall semester 2017. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized and externally supported research program related to the contributions of parks, recreation and tourism. Highly desirable are research and teaching interests in community parks and recreation, quality of life, health and well-being, sport management, and associated entrepreneurial aspects of recreation and community-based programming and development. The successful candidate will also teach core courses in our undergraduate and graduate programs, develop or continue her or his own research agenda, seek external funding to support that agenda, and supervise theses and dissertations.

The University of Utah is a research institution (R1) and advancement requires combined excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Potential applicants should visit our website to review our faculty expertise and existing courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In their letter of application, candidates should comment on how they see themselves contributing to our current productivity and structure. We are especially interested in hiring a colleague who complements our existing faculty and creates heretofore unrealized synergies in our program and within the Department of Health, Kinesiology, and Recreation and the College of Health.
